Sunday Byte

Today’s Gospel (Mk. 6:1-6) ends on a note of incredulity, “Jesus was amazed at their lack of faith.” People will always justify why they reject the Word and Spirit of the Lord. They fail to see that by giving the Devil an inch in their lives, with their excuses for rejecting what the Lord desires, he will soon take a mile and then, their entire lives become barriers to God.

What is the hope in such a reality? God does not treat us the way we deserve. Rather, He treats us based on His overpowering love for us, driven by a supernatural obsession for us to be with Him forever. In other words, when our faith is weak, God ‘rains’ His grace on us. He strengthens our faith, increases our hope and solidifies our love. Give Him praise!

Lord Jesus, You came to save us from our excuses in not embracing Your word. You rescue us when our actions take us away from Your expectation. Pour Your living water upon us, so that as our faith is strengthened, we may rejoice and walk always in newness of life. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
