Question: Why should we be merciful and forgiving to others?

Answer: Because our God is merciful and forgiving to each of us.

Today’s Psalm (Ps. 79:8-13) and both readings (Dn. 9:4b-10 and Lk. 6:36-38) all highlight God with the power to forgive, heal and save His people from our sins. These attributes are rooted in His love that desires us to have life.

Our willingness to forgive is a direct reflection of our capacity to love God and others, not only as we are commanded, but also as a sign of gratitude of being forgiven. The one who is forgiven much, is the one who is loved much.

The one who forgives much, is the one who loves much. Pray for the grace to love and forgive.

Loving Father, Your love and mercy are new every morning. Pour Your mercy upon us, so that we may show our gratitude by returning love to You, and impart mercy and forgiveness to all in our lives. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
