What is it in the human spirit that makes us revolt against our God? In the Old Testament, He sent prophets but the people rejected them (Jer. 11:18-20). He sent His Son, but the people resisted (Jn. 7:40-53) and later killed Him. The Disciples too met the same fate.
When Jesus calls us and sends us out to evangelise our world, we too must be prepared to share in His cross of being rejected, and having our names and characters slaughtered. This is a direct result of sin that opposes the life that God gives. Be strong in the Lord.
Lord Jesus, Your victory over sin and death makes You worthy of all praise, glory and honour. Fortify us to carry our cross, and to walk with You into the joy of life eternal. Amen.
