Lenten Bytes

What God is for us, we must be for others. Such a simple but profound statement which is not always evident in the lives of believers. He is our source of our love and mercy, but not everyone radiates love and mercy to others. He is our provider, but do we show gratitude by being generous with those in need? His love impels Him to make the ‘first move’.

The relationship aspect of the spiritual life is stated by Jesus, “Do to others what you would have them do to you” (Mt. 7:12). If we desire compassion and care; yearn for connection, or celebration of milestones and achievements; want to be understood; hunger for patience and kindness from others, then we need to reveal God and make the ‘first move’ for others.

Lord Jesus, Your desire for us to have an eternal relationship with You is evident by the ‘first moves’ of bringing us into life, and restoring it by Your sacrifice on the cross. Help us to be for others what You are for us, and choose to be sources of life and supportive love. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
