Lenten Bytes

Every parent wants what is best for their child. The mother of Zebedee’s sons request of the Lord (Mt. 20:20-23) is not unlike many parents who work, sacrifice and ‘make contacts’ with others to get their children ahead in life.

Jesus grants part of her request, but invites her to surrender the unfulfilled part to the Father (Mt. 20:23). As the Lord blesses our children, are we willing to be the face of our Father by blessing other people’s children?

Lent invites us to look at not only our and our children’s blessings, but also how we are blessed by God to uplift the lives of others. What is the Lord saying to your heart today? Our loving God is delighted when we respond.

Loving Father, we thank You for blessing us and our children. May we readily show our gratitude by sharing our blessings with others and their children. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
