Lent is a time of penance and penitence. Our spiritual exercises are primarily aimed at our growth in grace. Jesus makes reference to Jonah and the Ninevites (Lk. 11:29-32) as the ideal example for our lives. When we pay attention to the word of the Lord, our listening and response should lead us to repentance. Our reward is eternal life with our Lord.
Lord Jesus, like Jonah in the belly of the whale, You were placed in the ‘belly of the earth’. May the power of Your resurrection inspire us to listen to Your word, repent from our sins and inherit eternal life with You in Your heavenly kingdom. Amen.
