Prayer is spending time in conscious awareness of our loving God. It may involve silence or moments of dialogue. This interplay yields the best results when our minds and hearts are fully engaged in the encounter with the Lord. It is He who guides us through prayer.
An example of this is seen in the encounter between Jesus and Peter in today’s gospel (Mt.16:13-19). They both choose to pay attention to each other without distraction. Peter affirms Jesus as the Christ, and the Lord makes him the leader. Pray, and be led.
Lord Jesus, we affirm our belief that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. May Your Holy Spirit lead and guide us in all our ways, so that we can offer You loving service. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
