Lenten Bytes

Life is a process. We learn and grow. But we do not all learn and grow at the same pace. It is therefore important that each individual constantly reflects on one’s life. In gratitude, we are to give thanks to the Holy Spirit when we can identify those areas in our lives that we have shown growth. In humility, we are to pray about those areas for the grace that is needed, and the openness that is required, for us to either stop or improve as signs of real love.

Love is the virtue identified by Jesus as the greatest commandment (Mk. 12:28-34). We learn to love God and neighbour over the passage of time. To love God with all that we are, is to habitually desire His presence, walk in His word and yield to His will with an increased intensity every day. To love neighbour as oneself, is to say and do things that impart life and refrain from that which bestows death. Patience and compassion are required of all.

Heavenly Father, only Your love is perfect. As You are patient with us in our slow stages of growth in love for You and neighbour, may we too impart patience and life to all. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
