Lenten Bytes

“Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste” (Lk. 11:17). Jesus states this truth when he is accused of driving out demons by the power of the demonic prince (Lk. 11:15). It is ironic that while doing good, Jesus is accused of evil. Such is the power of the devil. So many of God’s people yield to the evil spirit rather than the Holy Spirit.

Evil is evident when people choose to create confusion rather than understanding; form crusades against others rather than build community; stir anger and bitterness rather than promote peace and harmony; and build barriers rather than bridges. Jesus who gathers us at His table, will deliver all who come to Him. Let the Holy Spirit reign.

Lord Jesus, You came not to scatter, but to gather us into Your kingdom of joy, peace and love. May we allow Your Spirit to empower us to be agents of unity and community. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
