Lenten Bytes

The loving father imaged in today’s parable (Lk. 15:20-32) shows a parent who rejoices in the return of his wayward son; who delights in extending forgiveness, and who desires the bond of unity of his children to be celebrated in his open house.

This image fits well with God our Father, who removes guilt and pardons sins; who delights in clemency and compassion (Mi. 7:18-19). Do we believe and embrace this God? If we do, the only response we can give is to love Him with our entire being.

Loving Father, Your limitless love and mercy lead us back into Your arms. May we never allow our sins to keep us away from You, but always delight in returning to You. May we also encourage others to do the same, and live in Your house forever. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
