Our approach to today’s gospel (Mk. 9:41-50) can be viewed in two ways. We can view the words of Jesus as someone who knows our faults and is saying things to kill our joy. This mentality leads to our resistance of the word, which leads to our condemnation. In contrast, we can realise that Jesus knows our sins and is saying what is necessary to save our souls. Our openness and favourable response to the Lord will lead to conversion. This approach draws us closer to the Lord and leads to our eternal salvation. Lord Jesus, help us to empty our pride and embrace Your wisdom with humility and love. May we reveal our desire to spend eternity with You by conforming to Your word. Amen.
