The scriptures are meant to address the daily issues of life while imparting spiritual values. Believers in every religion have their own sacred texts. Adherents in any religious gathering know and teach that their sacred books are not novels that one reads and says, “I have read it already.” Instead, the divine word is to be part and parcel of daily reading and living.
When Jesus taught, He based His lessons on real life experiences. His discernment gained through prayer and His understanding of people allowed Him to ‘hit the nail on the head’, even if it was rejected. His observance of the people’s behaviour at table gave Him the ‘food’ needed to teach about humility (Lk. 14:7-11). Daily ‘eat’ the Lord’s words and live.
Loving Lord, You teach us how to live, so that we may know how to experience true joy and consummate peace. May we devour by Your word and embrace the lessons You impart, so that we can please You in the daily events of our lives. Amen.
