When a couple gets married, they both become members of the spouse’s family. Jesus is the Husband who takes the Church as His bride. So those who follow the Lord become part of His family. As He did with John (Jn. 19:25-27), the Lord does with each of us — He gives us His Mother, “Behold, your mother.”
Who is a mother? Most of us can attest to our mother’s unfailing, sacrificial and steadfast love. Mary, the mother of Jesus, offers her motherly love to all who accept her presence. If Mary was such a beacon for Jesus — in moments of celebration or sorrow — then she will be the same for us. Embrace her always.
Lord Jesus, You give us the gift of Your mother Mary. May we honour her and love her as You did. May our lives make her proud to be called Your brothers and sisters. Amen.
