When we pray, we grow in awareness of who our God is, what He wants and how we are to please Him. This comes naturally with time and grace. However, because we are not able to do anything completely good without some selfishness attached, we need His help.
This is where we call upon the Holy Spirit “to see the beam” in our own eye (Lk. 6:39-42). The Spirit gives us the courage to face our faults even when others tell us we are perfect. If we truly want to grow, let the Spirit show us what to change, then lovingly do it.
Come Holy Spirit, touch my eyes so that I may truly see those ‘beams’ that need to be identified and discarded. May my main purpose be to look with eyes of love, to have the spiritual sight to walk in Your way, and to be Your beacon for others to imitate. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
