It is one thing to go astray from the Lord and ask for forgiveness. God is merciful and full of compassion (Ps. 145:8-9). It is quite another for believers who go to Church, Synagogue, Temple or Mosque to believe that everything and anything is acceptable, based on their senses, emotions or mindset. These do not avail themselves to the guidance of the Spirit of the Lord, but prefer their foolish ways (1 Cor. 2: 14) and refuse understanding.

As we see in today’s gospel (Lk. 4:31-37), it is possible to sit in the House of God and still be ruled by evil. Too many believers fall into this category. Too many of God’s people do not know right from wrong, nor good from bad. Their choices, lifestyle and expending energy to draw others into their darkness all grieve the Holy Spirit. The only way forward is to come to the Lord in humility, and ask Him to heal us and lead us into His light of life.

Loving Lord, speak to us, and let Your word teach us Your ways that lead to peace, joy and life. May we choose to step away from our sins and walk confidently in Your light. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
