We are commanded to love God and neighbour (Mt. 22:34-40). Although all believers will say they love, the reality and evidence point to the fact that people do this in different degrees, even to the point of being indifferent.

We are to love God and put Him first. Yet how many believers dedicate time to private and public worship? How many put other things before God, and give Him the remainder? Do we spend time contemplating His word daily?

Believers will say that they love their neighbour. But how often do these same lips ‘paint’ the neighbour in unloving words? How many believers have stony hearts and indifferent attitudes toward another person?

If more people truly loved God and neighbour, their personal lives would be much better.

God of life and Lord of love, You reveal that to love You and neighbour is the secret and path to eternal life. May our authentic love lead us into Your sacred heart. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
