We either transform the darkness around us or become imitators of it. We either rise above the evil we encounter in others or become participants in its energy. Jesus moves beyond the teaching of “an eye for an eye” (Mt. 5:38-42) and calls genuine followers to see that love, mercy and peace is the only transformative path to take. Which will you choose?
Lord Jesus, You did not repay our evil with Your condemnation. Instead, You taught us that Your grace is more than enough to elevate us from our sins, and empowers us not to engage or imitate the evil in others. Lead us by Your love to the high road of life. Amen.
