Daily Bytes

As I mentally prepare for my Aunt’s funeral today, with cremation and burial next week, my mind is flooded with thoughts of her. In addition, memories of Mom also resurface. Those of us who go through the grief process can attest to the waves of happiness and sadness that come at various times. Smiles and tears are part and parcel of life’s journey.

Our Lord tells us that not one sparrow falls to the ground without our Father’s knowledge, and that we are worth more than sparrows (Mt. 10:29-31). Our loved ones who have died are our fallen sparrows. Our love for them gives us hope. However, the Lord’s love for them grants eternal life. This is why we trust in God and surrender the departed to Him.

Lord Jesus, as we commend our dearly departed into Your hands, we pray that You have mercy on them and welcome them into Your eternal kingdom. May the memories we share keep them alive in our hearts. May our faith in the gift of Your resurrection never wane, but inspire us to live so as to gain access to that place that You have promised. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
