From Eden until the end of time, the battle between light and darkness rages on. Whereas the snake symbolised evil in the garden, this eventually manifested in the murder by Cain, and then the ongoing wickedness and rebellion by the people.
The Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes could not come to the realisation that they were now being the forces of darkness against Jesus (Mt. 9:34). Many Christians today also fail to see how they are darkness and not the light. Pray for the gift of discernment.
Come Holy Spirit, and help us to discern how to identify and imitate the light of Christ. As we struggle against the darkness in our world, may the assurance of our ultimate victory give us the courage and strength to persevere in remaining steadfast to our mission. Amen.
