Our Lord can’t be accused of being predictable. If anything, He comes and disturbs our state of being, deliberately turning our world upside down in order to lead us into greater dimensions of holiness. We are shaken so that we can become more alive.
Today’s gospel (Mt. 5:38-42) goes against the grain of how we would normally think. To rise against repaying evil for evil and to extend oneself for the sake of satisfying the needs of another, are paths that the Lord took and invites us to follow His steps.
Lord Jesus, You meet and comfort us in our current state of mind, so that You can empower us to rise to new heights of spiritual awareness and discipleship. May Your Spirit remind us of all that You teach, and strengthen us to walk in Your ways. Amen.
