Our Lord tells us to seek reconciliation before we offer gifts at the altar (Mt. 5:20-26). But what happens when you make the move to be reconciled, sometimes through many and varied attempts, but the other refuses to accept and be reconciled?
I often advise people to “do what you can, not what you can’t.” You can’t force others to either change or be mutually forgiving and press forward in love. If the other continues to be a source of evil gossip or instigates conflict and war, then “let go and let God.”
God sees our efforts. In the end, after we have done our part, move on in true love.
Lord Jesus, You came to reconcile us with the Father and each other. Sadly, not everyone wants reconciliation. May You bless our efforts in following Your command to be reconciled with others. When our attempts are rejected, teach us how to “bless and release”. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
