Yesterday we celebrated Pentecost, the gift of our ascended Lord. The Holy Spirit creates and recreates all things. He brought Mary into life through the laws of nature. He then later overshadowed Mary and brought about the birth of Jesus through supernatural grace.
As Jesus was dying on the cross, He gave Mary to John as his mother (Jn. 19:25-34). Just as Eve was formed from the side of Adam, so too the Church was formed from the side of our crucified Lord. Mary is given as mother to both John and the Church.
How then do we live as the adopted children of God with the conscious awareness that Mary is our mother? Like Mary, we are to allow the Holy Spirit to fill our lives with the aim of revealing Jesus to the world. By the power of the Spirit, bear fruits for God’s glory.
Come Holy Spirit, and fill our hearts with the fire of Your divine love. As You did for Mary our mother, we humbly ask that You work through us to reveal Christ to the world. Amen.
