Science, reason and common sense are all good and useful gifts. They take us safely to the edge of the cliff. It is at that point, when everything good has been utilized but we are still left wanting something more, it is then that faith enters the picture.
We see an example of such faith in today’s gospel. The Centurion requested Jesus to heal his servant by speaking it into being without entering ‘under his roof’ (Mt. 8:5-11). When we are at the edge of the cliff, faith says “jump”. Where is your faith?
Lord Jesus, we truly are not worthy to have You under our roof, but Your love for us impels You to be present. Heal us Lord. Have mercy on us Lord. Speak Your life to us all. Amen.
