In today’s gospel (Lk. 12:49-53), Jesus the Prince of peace declares that He has come to establish division. This statement is as strange as it is scary. So how do we make sense of such a justified division from the One who is the true source of unity, joy and love?
When we choose to follow the Lord, we separate ourselves from the world and its vice. The more we grow in the word of the Lord and kingdom values, the more we will experience that division naturally occurring as we strive to be authentic Disciples from those who are not.
Lord Jesus, You give us the vision of dividing sheep from goat. May our obedience to Your word, and the division it causes from those who disobey, lead us into Your arms. Amen.
