Daily Byte

“Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival” (Lk. 12:37). How do we please the Lord and remain “awake” when He returns? One answer is to be found in bearing the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). This comprises the nine gifts of love, patience, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, generosity, faithfulness and self-control.

Since we all desire eternal life with the Lord, then the answer of loving God with our entire being and loving neighbour as we love ourselves (Lk. 10:27) must stand up to scrutiny. If we strive to love and put God first, we have to renounce the various idols such as pride, envy and anger from our lives. We learn to love others by seeing God in them.

Lord Jesus, bless us each day so that we can faithfully keep watch for Your return. May we strive to obey Your word and inspire others to do same. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
