Daily Byte

Life is much too short to waste energy on negativity. We will always have positive and negative experiences in life. The positive includes joy; laughter; happiness; peace and feeling a sense of real connection. The negative comprises hurt; anger; sadness; war and a disconnect in our relationships. There is usually the temptation to repay evil for evil.

In today’s gospel (Lk. 9:51-56), we see Jesus and His disciples being rejected by the Samaritans. In response, the disciples yielded to their anger and desired retribution on the people. But our Lord kept the positive approach. He simply moved on to another village. He refuses to imitate their darkness. Today, rise above negativity and be the Lord’s light.

Lord Jesus, You are our light and our life. May we choose to resist the evil attitude and behaviour we encounter in others, and fight the darkness of our negative emotions, so that we can rise with Your power to be lights who shine brightly for Your kingdom. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
