When we confess to God, in prayer or in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we do not only name the sins, but we must also be sorry for them. Our contrition is a necessary ingredient in being forgiven. The woman in today’s gospel showed her sorrow by her tears and the penitential service she offered by wiping the feet of Jesus (Lk. 7:36-50). She was healed. As we acknowledge our sins, may we also be sorry and seek to become better.

Lord Jesus, You never refuse our presence because we are sinful. But with great love and tender mercy, You forgive us and allow us to draw close to You. May our humble spirits and contrite hearts serve as evidence of our sorrow, as we strive to live holy lives. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
