Daily Byte

Most, if not all, believers have a religion-specific holy book. For Christians, almost everyone has a Bible, our inspired word of God. Many will read this word, either with the text in hand or online. But how many actually pay attention to what is read? How many read to not only understand, but also to allow the message to shape our lives?

Take for instance today’s readings which are plain and clear to adults and children. Jesus said, “To you who hear, I say, love your enemies”. He then goes on to say to “do good, bless and pray” for them (Lk. 6:27). Love is “the bond of perfection” that eventually leads to the peace of Christ that controls our hearts (Col. 3:12-17).

When Christians learn to follow Jesus the Word, and allow His words to shape our personal and communal lives, that is when we will see change for the better in our world. Although this aforementioned statement has been said from the dawn of Christianity until now, it has to be repeated until it is heard for the ‘first time’ to make an impact.

Lord Jesus, touch our ears so that we may listen to Your word. Open our minds and hearts so that we may understand. Fill us with Your Spirit so that we may choose to become living ‘words’, reflecting Your eternal and life-giving Word in our daily lives. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
