The evidence of being true worshippers of God is not just sitting in a Church, Synagogue, Temple, Mosque or other place of worship. Anyone can go to sit in a Holy Place. It is a start but it is not the end. True believers who gather in the House of the Lord must not only be open to hearing His Word, but also must be prepared to respond to Him.
We hear that individuals and nations who are just and who have faith, will have the gates of heaven open to them (Is. 26:2). It is not the person or group who cries out, “Lord, Lord” who will enter heaven, but only the one who does the will of our Father (Mt. 7:21). Disciples of our Lord are not posers, but are a people who live by God’s commands.
By our lives, we either inspire others to draw close to God or give reasons to be distant.
Loving Father, as we journey through the Season of Advent towards the joyful celebration of Christmas, may we wake up from our spiritual slumber. May we become more alert to the dark areas in our lives that need to change, not only because they present a real danger to our salvation, but also because they prevent others from knowing Your goodness and love. Be glorified in our hearts, thoughts, words and everyday actions. Amen.
