No matter how hard you try, you can never please everyone. John the Baptist lived as an ascetic, but the people said he was possessed. Jesus lived a life of celebration, and the people said He was a glutton and drunkard (Mt. 11:16-19). Despite our Lord’s feeding and healing, they still crucified Him. At the end of the day, our ultimate aim is to live a life that truly pleases the Lord. It is He who is our comfort, strength and eternal reward.
Loving Lord, even as You came in love to save us, You sought the will of Your Father in order to discern His purpose and live to please Him. May our lives of service not only bring joy to others, but also be motivated by our real intention to please You in all things. Amen.
