What is the difference between a wise person and a fool? Jesus declares that the wise person is one who hears the word of the Lord and acts on it. However the fool hears this same word but does not act on it (Mt. 7:24-27).
It is interesting to note that both the wise person and the fool hears the Lord’s word and are not spared from the rain, flood and strong wind. The only difference is the wise who acted had a safe house, while the fool who ignored the word reaped destruction.
Let us use our Advent journey to listen more keenly to the word of the Lord. May our joyful and positive response to God’s word reveal that we are a people who are wise, and who dwell in His safe house.
Lord Jesus, Your holy word leads us out of the folly of our darkness and into the wisdom of Your light. Help us to listen and act on what You say, so that we can live in safety and true peace. Amen.
