Each line in today’s gospel (Lk. 6:27-38) should be read slowly, repeatedly and with a real desire to be attentive. Jesus is taking us into holy ground, and also to a higher altitude in our spiritual lives. Every believer can use this gospel pericope to examine whether we are truly growing, or have allowed people and our emotions to keep us stagnated. Do we truly love as we should, or are we selective? Jesus challenges us to love our friends and foes; do good to those who support or hate us; bless those who compliment or curse us, and pray for the kind and mean spirited people we know. The love and forgiveness we receive without restriction from our God, is to be shared without distinction. Lord Jesus, empower us with Your Spirit, so that we can truly be as loving and merciful as You desire. May our lives and ways of relating with others be pleasing in Your sight. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
