Jesus tells us to “Stay awake,” because we do not know the day He will return (Mt. 24:42). This means we have to be on guard at all times. We do this to recognise the many ways the Lord comes daily into our lives, bringing peace and joy. We are also to be alert to the ‘thief of our souls’, who either creeps in, or is invited, into our spiritual homes. This ‘thief’ robs us of peace; makes us worried and afraid; removes harmony and unity, and creates sadness.
Once we are alert to the Lord, we will see that His love and joy will be our strength. Lord Jesus, help us to stay awake to Your faithful presence, goodness and blessings in our lives. May Your Spirit help us to keep the ‘thief of our souls’ away from us. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
