‘Nemo resideo’ is latin for ‘no one left behind’, a morale boosting concept during warfare. It gives an assurance that the wounded or captured will not be abandoned. Every effort will be applied to rescue and bring home one’s companion. Believers understand that we are all in a spiritual warfare (Eph. 6:12; Rev. 20:8). Jesus came to fight and rescue us from the enemies that threaten our eternal life. These are sin, death and the devil. Our membership in God’s army is marked by our faith. The woman in today’s gospel (Mt. 15:21-28) reveals that persistent faith, no matter one’s race or nationality, will prompt the Lord to rescue us. Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith and help me to have courage in times of battle. May the assurance I have in You spur my actions to rescue others through Your Spirit. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
