Are you willing to be stretched by God? We all desire that which is comfortable and familiar. It gives us a certain sense of peace and security. We sing, “Fill my cup and let it overflow” with joy and thanksgiving. But what happens when the cup is dry? When happens when our lives are turned upside down? Living in this ‘new normal’ of the COVID-19 pandemic has certainly disturbed our routine and way of life. Yet we know that even in changing circumstances, life goes on. We have had to find creative and innovative ways to cope. The reality is that change forces us to be stretched, and this spurs growth in faith and hope. Elisha allowed himself to be stretched after encountering Elijah. He sacrificed his oxen, fed the people, and changed his lifestyle to follow Elijah (1 Kgs. 19:19-21). He would later take on the mantle of being a mighty prophet for the Lord. Let us not fear being stretched by our God. He works through all changes in life for our good. Jesus, You are the Lord of all times and changes in life. When we are stretched in the many storms of life, guide us safely to shore and into Your loving arms. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
