Jesus who is one with the Father (Jn. 10:30) is our source of good news. His resurrection from the dead and authority over all creation, which includes our lives, provide courage and inspiration to face any struggle and experience with a real sense of hope and victory. It was the preaching of these matters that made the early Church strong in moments of crisis. It caused a large number of people to be added to the flock (Acts 11: 24). What is the key element to add to our numbers in today’s moment of the COVID-19 crisis in our world? Despite its fleeting pleasure, the practice of gossiping, speaking ill of others and putting them in a bad light does nothing positive for the speakers and listeners. Words that are unkind and derogatory only keep the speaker in darkness. The only way forward, which lifts our spirits and increases our numbers, is to be sources of good news to all.

The Disciples were first called Christians at Antioch (Acts 11:26). A Christian denotes an individual who freely chooses to follow Christ. This implies that the Christian is going to be a light for others in this world. The Christian’s attitude and actions are geared toward being positive, uplifting and seeking the advancement of others. We are graced to defeat the evil and darkness in our hearts and world by the power of our Lord’s resurrection.

Lord Jesus, You are the good news that gladden our hearts and give joy to our spirits. Help us to show we belong to You by choosing to be good news to those in our lives. Amen.
