“The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Heb. 4:12). The Bible cuts through our ego and the darkness that envelopes us when we move away from its light. It addresses the core of our being, so that we can face our true state and move in the direction the Lord commands. This word distinguishes good from evil, and highlights the difference between the vice of the world and the virtue of the Kingdom. When Jesus spoke the word, it caused a division between those who believed and those who doubted (Jn. 7:44). This word will evaluate our fear versus our faith. Even though we are not perfect, we are called by God to spread His word. It will comfort and challenge each of us to grow in the Lord’s ways. Lord Jesus, You are Word made flesh. Give us the courage to listen to Your voice, and allow Your word to shape and fashion us in Your image and likeness. Amen.
