Barring those who are deaf, Jesus says, “Whoever has ears, let them hear” (Mt. 11:15). As it was then, so it is now. People may be able to hear, but show a disturbing inability to listen. If one does not listen, one cannot understand, follow instructions, empathise with another’s painful story, or impart a sense of being connected to others. Jesus is the Word. His words impart love, mercy, healing and the way to eternal life. When we do not listen, our disconnect from Him results in feeling alone, burdened with guilt, depressed and walking the path that leads to death. However, if we choose to pay attention to His voice, remove the distractions and stop “tuning out,” we will live. Lord Jesus, touch my ears that I may hear Your voice, follow Your word and live in the joy and strength of Your comforting grace. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
