Today's Byte

If we believe Jesus is our good news, then we have no reason to fear. Our ability to yield to God’s grace means that on some days, the news will be uplifting, such as the birth of a child, exams passed or receiving a promotion. However on other days, due to our weak state, the news can be painful, such as the death of a loved one, exams failed or the closure of an institution. Believers understand that when we are buffeted by news, good or bad, our anchor must be Jesus Christ. When the news is joyful, this anchor allows us to celebrate without getting carried away. When the news concerns wars, famine, destructive acts of nature and events that prompt fear (Lk. 21:10-11), the Lord tells us not to be frightened (Lk. 21:9). The more we trust God, the greater is our peace in Him.

Lord Jesus, anchor me by Your strength through the daily waves of good and bad news. May Your peace keep me afloat at all times. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
