Today's Byte

Churchill said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” We are given the sobering reminder by Jesus in today’s reading that, “We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty” (Lk. 17:10). Anyone can do the work that is assigned. A servant can approach one’s duties with resentment or pure joy. The difference lies in the attitude of the servant. The disciple who truly loves Jesus, will testify that this attitude makes one ready to listen and respond to our Lord’s call. If we as disciples have grown to love the One who saves and provides for us, there is no request by the Lord we will not joyfully undertake. Holtz reminds us, “Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation cites what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” Practice an attitude of love. Lord Jesus, may Your Spirit help us to have an attitude of love, so that we may joyfully and humbly undertake the task of spreading the good news and building Your kingdom. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
