Today's Byte

Scripture exhorts us to “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up” (Jas. 4:10). Jesus affirms this in today’s gospel when He says, “those who humble themselves will be exalted” (Lk. 14:11b). Our God can only work in our lives when we bow in humility before Him. He who wants to bless us and fulfil our needs, can only do so when we let go of our pride and inflated sense of self. If our hearts are truly right with God, we do not need the ‘best seat’ or the ‘place of honour’. We do the good for goodness sake and the glory of God. We seek the good of others because it pleases the Lord. Our ego demands attention, acclamation and a false notion that we are ‘good enough’ because of our works. True humility allows God to save us by His mercy, restore us by His love, and exalt us by His power. Lord Jesus, may Your Spirit grace us with true humility, so that as we bow before You, You will raise us up by your redeeming love. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
