Lenten Bytes

Jesus lived in the shadow of the cross. We hear in today’s gospel how He and the crowd knew the authorities wanted to kill him (Jn. 7:1-2, 10, 25-30). Anyone who knows the experience where either they or a loved one, is dealing with a serious illness, death threats or various issues which cause stress and tension, understands how precious each moment of life is, and makes each day purposeful.

We may not all know the simultaneous fear and true courage of such moments, but we all live with the reality of death. How do we embrace each day as a gift from God? How do we show our gratitude for being alive? Do we live to please God? If today is our last day, are we ready to meet our Lord?

Loving Father, may Your Spirit of life fill me with purposeful joy, so that each day will be embraced as a gift and an opportunity to praise You, and reveal You to others. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
