Lenten Bytes

God’s desire to save us must be matched with our desire to be saved. We know that God loves us and wants us to be with Him forever. But is our love reciprocal, and do we yearn to be with the Lord of love for all eternity? The evidence for this must be in our repentance from sin. The people of Nineveh heard Jonah’s preaching. They may have been primarily prompted by the fear of destruction and death, but they heard the message from God, and their positive response of sincere repentance lead to their salvation (Jn. 3:1-10). Today, let us ask for the grace to recognize and turn away from our sins to be saved. Lord Jesus, may Your Spirit illumine the expanse of my mind and heart, so that I may have the courage to move away from that which displeases You, and live as a disciple destined for an eternal home with You. Amen.
