Lenten Bytes

Jesus reminds us in today’s gospel that discipleship is evidenced by our ‘feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, welcoming the stranger and caring for any who is sick or imprisoned’ (Mt 25: 34-36). Lent invites us to show practical love by engaging in any, or as many, of the aforementioned actions as possible. It is important to remember that these actions are not meant to be a basis for vainglory or popularity. Our intention and motivation that spur these actions should be to please our God, give Him glory and build His kingdom. Love for God and neighbour is the criterion that differentiates a believer from mere benevolence.

Lord Jesus, may my actions please You and be evidence of my sincere love for You and others.
