Daily Bytes

We are prone to get easily distracted. Whether face-to-face or online; one-on-one or in a group; being physically close or distant, our minds tend to drift as we hear selectively and then conclude erroneously. If we are honest, the more we own how distracted we are, then the less we should be at speaking definitively, knowing that we missed some details.

Jesus understands our human behaviour. He who made us knows our weaknesses. That is why He tells us, “Pay attention to what I am telling you” (Lk. 9:44). The disciples could not fully grasp His statements as they were caught up in, “Who is the greatest?” and “Who sits on His right and left side?” Their thoughts, as do ours, will get in the way of facts.

Being distracted is one of the most disastrous ‘storms’ in any relationship. By blocking our ability to fully comprehend, we go off on tangents that break down communication. This leads to heartache. Our spiritual lives also suffer. When we are absorbed in distractions, we miss what God desires and how to live as His children. Pay attention and live.

Loving Lord, give us a deep desire to listen to You. Grant us the ability to truly understand and the sincere will to follow Your word. Help us to limit and remove the many distractions that block our ears and minds. May our attentive response lead us into eternal life. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
