Daily Bytes

The death of a loved one is never easy to handle. People mourn and cope differently. We see Jesus, upon hearing the death of His cousin John, “withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by Himself” (Mt. 14:13). But this withdrawal is to be understood in the light of His relationship with His Father. Their bond is the source from which all grace flows.

Jesus did not step away from the awareness of His Father’s presence. Instead, His retreat was to draw strength and guidance from His loving Father. When we step back from the daily demands of life, and take time to rest, recuperate or grieve WITH the Lord by our side, it is then that we will gain the grace we need to persevere. Trust His power.

Lord Jesus, as we claim Your faithful presence in our lives, may we choose to rest with You, so that whatever the challenges we face, we know You will rescue and save us. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
