Today’s gospel (Mt. 9:9-13) imparts a certain sense of comfort and joy to all. Jesus calls Matthew to follow Him and welcomes sinners in His presence. No individual is beyond the love and mercy of the Lord. Nothing can ever separate us from His love.

When we choose to be less fixated on ourselves and “turn our eyes upon Jesus”, we will experience an elevated sense of self in our entire being. This graced interaction with our Lord radiates to others and stirs a communal ‘resurrection’ in their lives.

Lord Jesus, You call us to follow You so that we may be healed and saved. May we choose to listen, respond and walk with You, all the days of our lives. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
