Daily Byte

Paul gives us a sober thought in today’s first reading, “For the world in its present form is passing away” (1 Cor. 7:31). At the time of Paul’s writing and reflection, there was an eager anticipation for the Lord’s return. This explains his proposals of detachment from spouses things and emotions (1 Cor. 7:25-30), which are mirrored in the gospel (Lk. 6:20-26). Our world has dramatically changed because of COVID-19. Our routines are disrupted and some people and things have ‘passed away’. We do not know when the Lord will return nor when the world will end. But we are called to have faith in God, seek Him above all things and walk in His ways. If we trust daily in our God, we have no reason to fear. Be at peace. Lord Jesus, we acclaim You as Lord of our lives. Come and take control of Your world and our lives. May our complete attachment to You lead us into the joys of heaven. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
