In every generation, our God calls His straying children back to Him. God’s perfect love for us is imbalanced with our imperfect lives. We sometimes yield to our selfish desires, and make either ourselves or our sins as idols (Ex. 32:8). We become idols when we believe that our choices and actions are better than God’s word. We make our sins idols when we give more attention to them than to God. Our God does not want us to have any idols in our lives, because the idols of self and sin cannot save us. He constantly calls us away from idols and to return to Him. He sends prophets and teachers to guide, warn and intercede on our behalf (Ex. 32:11-12). Eventually, He sent the ultimate source of our salvation, Jesus His Son (Jn. 3:16), who testified to the Father’s love (Jn. 5:36). Today, ask for the grace to uproot all our idols, so that nothing stands in the way of the true worship of our saving Lord. Father, through Your Spirit, help us to identify and remove any idols of sin, doubt and selfishness in our lives. May we, through Jesus Your Son, direct our full attention to You, and offer You true worship. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
