Advent Bytes

Our entrance into the kingdom of heaven is based on our doing the will of our Heavenly Father (Mt. 7:21). The desires of our Father are revealed through the word of Jesus, who calls us to put what we hear into practice (Mt. 7:24).

During the Season of Advent, we can pray for the grace to imitate three figures prior to the ministry of Jesus:

1. Like Mary, we pray for the humility to say “yes” to what God wants for each of our lives. This means praying for the self and others.

2. Like Joseph, we pray for the courage to change any aspect of our intentions and actions, so that love and mercy may be paramount.

3. Like John the Baptist, we pray to be the voice that points others to Jesus. This task is not based on our self-worth but on His Holy Spirit.

Lord Jesus, may my love for you be evidenced by my willingness to listen to Your word and to put it into practice. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
